Where is the 4x4 relay on a 97 f150? ›

The 4X4 Shift relay is located in the RPO relay block which is located behind the glove box, see it location HERE.

The fuses are in the interior fuse panel which is located under the left hand side of the dash. There are 2 relays, which are called flashers, one is the turn signal flasher and one is the hazard flasher.

Remove the fuse from its holder. In some cases you may need a small screwdriver to unscrew the fuse holder cap. Look at the fuse wire. If there is a visible gap in the wire or a dark or metallic smear inside the glass then the fuse is blown and needs to be replaced.

Sometimes a fuse is bad but not necessarily blown. In this case, the best way to test it is with a test light or a multimeter. These are both relatively inexpensive tools and provide an easy way of checking if there's a current running through the fuse.

You'll notice a lack of vibrations coming from your AC unit, and your cooling system will suddenly become quiet. This is the most common sign of a blown fuse, and you need to unplug your air conditioner immediately to prevent further damages.

The most sure sign you have a blown fuse is if your electrical system stops working. Lights, power windows, windshield wipes, locks, and turn signals all rely on electricity. If the flow of electricity has stopped due to a blown fuse, one or several of these features won't be working properly.

If both lights are not working, this is likely a sign of a blow fuse or a dysfunctional flasher. This could also be due to a corroded socket or damaged bulbs, which are a slightly more complicated issue.

In the fuse box inside the vehicle on the passenger side (the Instrument Panel fuse box) you should find two fuses: LT/TRN/SIG and RT/TRN/SIG for the left and right turn signals, respectively.

Usually, you will find two fuse boxes in the car. One is located under the hood and the other is found in the dashboard or near the steering wheel.

Usually, it will be in your garage or your basem*nt. Open the fuse box and look at the glass containers that hold the fuses. If you can see that the fuse is visibly broken, or there is metallic residue on the glass from the fuse blowing, you will need to replace that particular fuse.
