FAQs

Where is the fuse layout? ›

The main fuse box is typically located under the hood, while secondary fuse panels might be inside the car, often near the dashboard or steering wheel. The fuse's wire conductor breaks when the current exceeds the ampere limit, which manufacturers usually define along with different color codes on each fuse.

Where is the secondary engine compartment fuse box? ›

The secondary under-hood fuse box is next to the battery. To open it, push the tabs as shown. If something electrical in your vehicle stops working, check for a blown fuse first. Determine from the chart on pages and , or the diagram on the fuse box lid, which fuse or fuses control that device.

Where is the fuse for power windows on a 2003 Ford Explorer? ›

That's the fuse block under the hood adjacent to the battery. Power to all window motors begins at fuse F1. 6 -- 60 amp.

Where is the passenger side fuse box? ›

Engine fuse boxes are typically situated near the battery. In this vehicle, the battery is on the driver's side, and there is a fuse box right above it with a black plastic cover to protect the fuses. On the passenger side, there is also a battery, and the fuse box is located nearby.

What is the placement of fuses? ›

The best place to install a fuse in a grounded power system is on the ungrounded conductor path to the load. That way, when the fuse blows there will only be the grounded (safe) conductor still connected to the load, making it safer for people to be around.

How do you tell which fuse is which? ›

Generally the manufacturer's brand name and the actual part number should be enough to identify the right fuse.

How many fuse boxes are there? ›

Most vehicles are equipped with two fuse boxes.

Where is the instrument cluster fuse located? ›

This is typically found inside the fuse box, which is located under the dash on the driver's side of the car. 2. Check the fuse visually for any signs of damage. If the fuse appears to be burnt or corroded, it needs to be replaced.

What fuses turn on with ignition? ›

A switched fuse is one that only has power when the ignition is turned on, while a constant fuse always has power.

Is there a seperate fuse for each power window? ›

Most window circuits are protected by a fuse or cutout in the supply line and this is the first place to check if the windows refuse to operate. With some arrangements a single fuse in the main supply line is used to protect the complete window system so a failure here affects all the windows.

Can a bad fuse cause one window not to work? ›

If only one window stops working, the problem could be a bad relay, fuse issue, bad motor, or the power window switch has failed. The most common reason for one window to stop working is the switch, so this should be looked at by a professional mechanic to have your power window switch replaced.

Where is the inside fuse box located? ›

Most vehicles have two fuse boxes, with one under the hood and the other in the cabin. You can usually find the other fuse box in the dashboard on the driver's side, but some manufacturers also place it below the glove box. If the interior fuse box isn't there, you can try checking the luggage compartment.

What is the engine compartment fuse? ›

Among other things, the engine compartment fuses protect functions related to the engine and the brake system. Special pliers are housed on the inside of the cover to facilitate replacement of tripped fuses.

Where is the fuse board located? ›

In many homes, especially older ones, the fuse box is often located in the basem*nt, under the stairs or a utility room. It might be mounted on a wall or placed on a freestanding panel.

What does it mean if no voltage is present on either side of a fuse? ›

Place the meter leads on either side of the fuse. If there is little to no voltage indicated, the fuse is good. However, if there's a difference in voltage (typically the full supply voltage), then the fuse is bad.
