Women's Volleyball
The Lions welcome nine new players to the roster for the 2024 women's volleyball season. The newcomers are Paige Flickinger, Kalani Hayes, Camille Pomeroy, Marlee Arrington, Gabby Destler, Kyla Firestone, Delfina Schuh, Paola Laborda-Echevarría, and Kaitlyn Evans.
Flickingeris a graduate transfer from LSU, hailing from Dallas, TX. Over her four years at LSU, she played in 314 sets and 85 matches. In 2023, she recorded a season-high of 14 kills at Alabama and a career-high of five aces against South Carolina. She was also named to the 2023 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll.Flickinger chose LMU because of the strong volleyball program and the beautiful campus views. She also said LMU is a great fit for her to grow as an athlete and be a part of a supportive environment.
Hayes is another graduate transfer, coming from Sacramento State and originally from Happy Valley, OR. She played in 411 sets and became the first middle blocker in the program's history to earn all-conference accolades four times. By the end of the 2023 season, Hayes had 156 blocks, ranking her 14th in the nation. She was also named to the All-Big Sky Conference First Team in both 2023 and 2022 and made the Big Sky Academic Team all four years.Hayes chose LMU because of the instant connection felt with the coaching staff and the other student athletes.
Laborda-Echevarríais the final graduate transfer, from Tennessee and originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico. As a libero, she played in 122 sets and 38 matches during her two seasons at Tennessee, finishing with 270 digs, averaging 2.21 digs per set. Before Tennessee, she spent two seasons at Georgia Tech.Laborda chose LMU because she wanted to have a great last experience as a collegiate athlete and believes the positive energy, enthusiasm and knowledge that Trent brings makes her feel excited.
Evansis a sophom*ore middle blocker transfer from American University. In her first season, she played in 40 sets and 13 matches, collecting 27 kills, 35 blocks, and 47.5 points, with season highs of five kills and 8.5 points against Holy Cross.Evans is from Dallas, TX and chose LMU because it would provide her with the opportunities and resources necessary to further develop both academically and athletically.
Firestonejoins LMU as a freshman setter from Encino, CA. She attended Bishop Alemany High School, playing four years of volleyball and serving as captain for two years. Firestone was a three-time All-CIF Southern Section and All-Mission League honoree, and made the LA Daily News All Area Team twice, finishing her high school career with a career-high of 3,500 assists.She chose LMU because of all the opportunities and how welcoming the community is.
Schuh, another freshman setter, hails from Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2022, she placed first in the South American Championship with the Argentinian Youth National Team and first in the U16 Argentinian Championship of clubs with River Plate. In 2023, she played with the U21 Argentinian National Team and placed third in the U18 Argentinian Championship with River Plate.Schuh chose LMU because it's an excellent program for her to grow athletically and academically. Another reason she chose LMU is because of the supportive environment and the amazing city.
Destleris a freshman outside hitter from Westwood, CA. She attended Marymount High School and was an All-Tournament selectee. Destler chose LMU for its special community both on and off the court, beautiful location, and excellent academics, stating that LMU feels like home.
Arringtonis a freshman outside hitter/opposite hitter from Glendora, CA. She attended Ontario Christian School and was an All-Tournament inductee. She chose LMU because it felt like home, and she fell in love with the team from the very first day.
Pomeroyjoins LMU as a freshman middle blocker from Madison High School in Vienna, VA. In high school, she was First Team All-District and All-Region.Pomeroy chose LMU because of the connection with the coaches and players, the education and location that will help her succeed in both her academic and athletic goals.
"We are thrilled to welcome four new transfers and an additional five freshmen this year," says coach Trent Kersten.
"They bring diverse skill sets that will bolster our physicality and skill level, but above all, they are outstanding individuals of high character. This incoming class combines youth and experience, and they are dedicated to leaving LMU Volleyball in a better place than they found it. I am eager to see their contributions to our program and the unique impact each will make."
The Lions will begin their 2024 season on August 30th in Kalamazoo, MI, facing off against Western Michigan University.
